Outreach Ministry

Prison Ministry-Angel Tree will be starting up in October.

During the month of September, restructuring Christian Education Programs for the Fall

Let your roots grow down into Christ and draw up nourishment from him.  See that you go on growing in the Lord, and become strong and vigorous in the truth.  Colossians 2:7 (Living Bible)

How do we grow “strong and vigorous” in the Lord?  One of God’s purposes for creating us is to become more like Christ.  Becoming like Christ is a long, slow process of growth called spiritual maturity, which is developed through Bible study and prayer.  As Disciples, we need to learn God’s word, how to apply it to our lives and how to reach others with His saving grace.

To grow in our Discipleship, we want to encourage you and your family to attend Sunday morning Sunday School and Wednesday Night Programs .   We offer classes for all ages, and our new Fall courses will begin in September.  Please feel free to visit a class, and if it’s not right for you, try a different one.  We encourage you to find where God wants you to be.

We look forward to greeting you at the Sunday morning church service at 10:15 a.m. as we come together and grow to be more like Christ.

 · Sunday Morning Sunday School

9:00 a.m. Adult Bible Study with Ruth Miller in the School Conference Room

9:00 a.m. Women’s Study Class with Beryl Mair held in the School Library.

· Wednesday Night

7:00 p.m. K-5th Grade Program with Stephanie Everett in the Cafeteria

7:00 p.m. Our middle and high school students, under the direction of Mr. Jim  will be exploring how to make good choices, loyalty and using wisdom.  In today’s challenging world, our youth need these insights and Christian disciplines.  Encourage your teen to bring his or her friends.  God’s word needs to be written on each teen’s heart.

The Buzz is...

The  Sunday Morning Children’s Church  has grown and grown to where our Christian Education Director, Cheryl Young has implemented two age appropriate programs. In the Sunday morning 10:15 service, after the children hear Pastor Walton’s  Children’s Sermon, the children in K-2nd Grade will go to the cafeteria and 3rd-6th grade will go to the library. There, the children  will hear a Bible story and reinforce the lesson through crafts or games.

Parkway is blessed to have such a growing and vibrant ministry to young children. Please be in prayer that God will continue to lead more youngsters to our ministry so that we might help lead them to Christ!

A Word About Evangelism and Bible Study

When asked by the Nominating Committee to be the Evangelism Director at Parkway, I was surprised. “I can’t knock on doors or stand on street corners and hand out tracks” I thought. “Let me pray about it.” And I did, for a week.

After a week of wrestling with many questions, God finally answered my prayer with three simple words, “Living, Loving & Learning.” These would become part of the mission of the Evangelism Committee that I agreed to head up.

Since then, what have I learned? I’ve learned that though I’ve read the Bible, I didn’t understand some of it, questioned other parts of it, and wondered why some was even in it. (Numbers?!) I just took the Bible at face value.  But in my quest to learn about evangelism, God provided me with a teacher, Pastor David Walton.

You need to come to Wednesday night Bible study. This is a good time to come, dress comfy, sit with friends, bring a notebook, pen and  Bible and get ready to learn and understand. For example, at Bible study I’ve learned many things like who the first Gentile convert was, that being saved is not only the beginning...but a process of lifelong sanctification and that the Old Testament is verified with the New Testament. I’ve even learned where the symbol of the American Medical Association comes from...a story from, of all place, the book of Numbers!

I know now what an awesome and wise God we serve, and there is a reason he carefully chose the authors of our Bible. He has told us what he wants us to know. Bible study has not only helped me understand more, but it has also increased my faith. Now that is real evangelism!

I invite you to Wednesday night Bible study too. You will fellowship with others and will leave with “Wows”, and light switches will be clicking on in your head after Pastor David’s teachings. Soon we will also be having dinners on Wednesdays, so you’ll be able to leave with your body AND your soul full. I hope to see you there.
